Ok mystic waters is about to get flung into the ceiling fan. Row 97 of clue one is totally screwing my world up. I dunno if there's an error in the written directions, the chart, both, or if I messed up my stitch count or something. I now have a headache. *grumble*

Oh... My... God....... It's come to Martha Stewart.....
So... I've been online today researching just how in the hell you roast a turkey and I keep ending up back at Martha Stewart's niche on Yahoo Food. I'm sitting here going "oh my God I'm voluntarily watching a Martha Stewart video". LOL This will be my first Turkey ever... first Thanksgiving dinner... first holiday dinner period.
It was all Jeremiah's idea. LOL I was content to go eat at someone else's house or go to Golden Corral, but Jeremiah wanted to do the family thing with a fire in the fireplace all Norman Rockwell.
I'll be posting photos of Torquemada (yes... I named the frozen turkey) whenever he emerges from the oven (hopefully) golden brown and tasty. He's a 17 lb butterball. Wish me luck!

China firemen told to abstain from sexual bribes
Thu Nov 15, 9:58 PM ET
BEIJING (Reuters) - China has banned fire department officials from receiving sexual favours as bribes from companies seeking their business, local media reported on Friday.
ADVERTISEMENT
Fire department officials were also banned from letting their spouses and children run fire-fighting companies and market fire-fighting products, part of an anti-corruption drive outlined in a notice posted on the Public Security ministry Web site.
Apart from taking cash and "other valuables", the order forbade officials from receiving "cheap or free house renovations", "having children entered into schools" and "receiving sexual services" provided by third parties.
"We must remind ourselves that we cannot ignore the problems regarding the opportunism of a minority of officials when enforcing the law," the notice said.
A commentary carried by the official Xinhua news agency on Friday praised the order -- officially abbreviated as the "Four Strictly Forbiddens" -- as timely.
"For every 10 corrupt officials, nine are involved in illicit sex. This old tune has already been proved by statistics from disciplinary organs many times," Xinhua said.
"The people believe that the trade of authority for sex is still comparatively serious," the commentary said.

Did you catch it?
"... proved by statistics from disciplinary ORGANS many times..."
Yea... disciplinary organs. More proof that Chinese public officials are mostly horny perverted fucks. Were it not for the grip of the censors, Chinese tv and literature would probably catch up to Japanese tv and literature in no time at all. I saw this Japanese game show (GO WATCH NOW!!!!!!!) that was really... odd. Basically these young svelt Japanese girls race through an obstacle course and throw themselves into a bed at the finish line. The camera then zooms in on their faces and go all soft focusy and the music got sorta porno-esque. I'm sure most people channel surfing wouldn't notice the suggestive nature of the program, but yegods can we say TV candy for horny men?? Woman... in bed... breathing hard and making cute little noises... soft focus... bad music... yeaahhhh... LOL I love Japanese culture... extreme perversions gilded over with a thin veneer of civility. It's wonderful. Although, dangit am I the only one that was mildly traumatized by the original Japanese UNCUT Sailor Moon movie? Her female friend like sprouted a penis mid-lesbian love scene and I was like "ummm wha???" O.O LOL Anyway... yeaaa... horny pervy people rock. You gotta admit that pervy Japanese game show is kinda hot in a really dirty sordid vaguely voyeuristic way. LOL I mean zomg... I think that cameraman went to the pornographic academy of videography or something. Seems to me there's an American porn studio that touts "first person perspective" on all their vids... i.e. they zoom in on the woman and make the video look as much like you're the one doing the chick as possible. That camera work with the zoom reminds me a lot of that... I mean watch the facial expressions of the girls. LMAO It's freakin soft core porn but without bare titties! ZOMG! I LOVE JAPAN!
P.S. You should click around that Japanese TV website... there's some really funny stuff on there. For example... the public restroom prank... if they did that in the states OMFG they'd be soooo sued, but in Japan they actually have a sense of humor! Woot! I almost peed myself laughing the first time I saw it.

More evidence of government stupidity
So... my 85 year old grandmother's shoes, Crazy Aunt Purl's mascara, and a tiny unlabeled bottle of shampoo are "security threats", but they can't stop THREE small bombs from getting through security??? Maybe the problem is that they're too buisy x-raying the shoes of the disabled and elderly and inspecting bottles of shampoo, water, and hand sanitizer. Maybe security workers are becoming OVERWHELMED by searching for all these silly things and this is affecting their ability to be vigilent for TRULY suspicious items. I think a small bomb (let alone three!) constitutes a FAR greater threat than my nail clippers personally. Here's the article:

Airport screeners missed bomb parts
By EILEEN SULLIVAN, Associated Press Writer Thu Nov 15, 6:58 AM ET
WASHINGTON - Government investigators smuggled liquid explosives and detonators past airport security, exposing a dangerous hole in the nation's ability to keep these forbidden items off of airplanes, according to a report made public Wednesday.
ADVERTISEMENT
The investigators learned about the components to make an improvised explosive device and an improvised incendiary device on the Internet and purchased the parts at local stores, said the report by the Government Accountability Office. Investigators were able to purchase the components for the two devices for under $150, and they studied the published guidelines for screening to determine how to conceal the prohibited items as they went through checkpoint security.
At the end of the testing, investigators concluded that terrorists could use publicly available information and a few cheaply available supplies to damage an airplane and threaten passenger safety.
"It is possible to bring the components for several IEDs and one IID through TSA checkpoints and onto airline flights without being challenged by transportation security officers," said the GAO, Congress' investigative arm.
The covert tests were conducted at Transportation Security Administration checkpoints at 19 airports in March, May and June of this year. The GAO did not identify the airports.
In August 2006, the TSA changed its screening policies after officials foiled a plot to use liquid explosives to blow up commercial airlines headed toward the U.S.
TSA spokeswoman Ellen Howe said the exercise tested only one of the agency's 19 layers of security and therefore doesn't mean the overall system is unsafe.
"While people think about us in terms of the checkpoints and they see us as the checkpoints, there's a lot more layers of security," she said. In addition to the checkpoints, the TSA uses different technologies and has officials who check the validity of documents and observe people's behaviors throughout the airport. "Just because somebody gets through one layer doesn't mean they're going to get through all of the layers."
The report released Wednesday is a version of a classified report with sensitive information left out. The report notes that the covert operations were intended to test only security at checkpoints and not all of the TSA's security layers.
The report listed several instances in which investigators were able to make it through security checkpoints while carrying prohibited items:
• On March 23, a TSA screener would not let one investigator through a checkpoint with a small, unlabeled bottle of shampoo, even though it was a legitimate carry-on item. But the same investigator was able to bring through a liquid component of bomb that would start a fire.
• On May 8, an investigator placed coins in his pockets to ensure he would receive a secondary screening at the checkpoint. But after doing a pat-down and using an electronic hand wand, the screener was not able to catch the prohibited items the investigator brought through the checkpoint.
The TSA agreed with the investigators' recommendation to introduce "more aggressive, visible and unpredictable security measures," as well as the recommendation to deploy new detection technologies.

Sad isn't that?? The paranoia in this country is starting to create problems. If security screeners weren't so busy scrutinizing silly things, maybe they'd have TIME to look for things that really ARE a threat. Yes, time... you think those security screeners aren't under a time crunch? They can only "hold up the line" for just so long before people and airlines start bitching. They're over-hurried, overwhelmed by silly guidelines, under-payed, and under-appreciated. People kind of take for granted the fact that these workers are doing their best, yet they expect PERFECTION in their work. I think that people in this country need to accept what people all over the rest of the world have accepted... there is NO foolproof way to ensure that terrorists cannot strike, and no matter how many rights you forfeit, or how many security measures you put in place, there is just NO guarantee of safety. Yes, we can reduce the risk, but this article just points to the obvious truth that no system is foolproof. It just infuriates me that this country is so oblivious, and is so infatuated with itself that it believes that "America, land of the free" should be immune to terrorism. There simply is no way to guarantee that, especially when those who are charged with ensuring that security are hampered by red tape and bureaucracy. Those workers are caught in a real catch 22 between the bureaucracy and protecting people's rights. Lets hope that whoever the next president is helps bring some sanity to this chaos.
Anywho... enough with the ranting. :D

There IS hope for this country after all!!!
Remember that damn judge that sued those poor korean dry cleaners for $54 million dollars because they lost his pants for a week? HE GOT FIRED! *does the happy dance* You can get the original story here but here's a cut and paste of it:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WASHINGTON - A judge who lost a $54 million lawsuit against his dry cleaner over a pair of missing pants has lost his job, District of Columbia officials confirmed.
Roy Pearson's term as an administrative law judge expired May 2 and the D.C. Commission on Selection and Tenure of Administrative Law Judges has voted not to reappoint him, Lisa Coleman, the city's general counsel, wrote Nov. 8 in response to a Freedom of Information Act request from The Associated Press.
Pearson was one of about 30 judges who worked in the Office of Administrative Hearings, which handles disputes involving city agencies. He had held his position for two years.
The Washington Post and The (Washington) Examiner, citing sources familiar with the case, reported the commission's decision last month. Coleman refused to release a copy of a letter to Pearson informing him of the decision, saying it is considered a personnel matter.
Pearson's lawsuit in D.C. Superior Court claimed Custom Cleaners, owned by South Korean immigrants, did not live up to Pearson's expectations of "Satisfaction Guaranteed," as advertised in store windows.
Pearson demanded repayment for the lost pants, as well as damages for inconvenience, mental anguish and attorney's fees for representing himself. He calculated his losses initially at $67 million but lowered his request to $54 million.
Pearson did not immediately respond to an e-mail from The Associated Press requesting comment.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am so glad that the higher ups recognized the crookedness of this guy and fired his ass. Not only did he waste valuable community resources on his frivolous claims, but he also created an international scandal for the US's legal system, which is already considered a joke in many countries. His actions just made us all look bad. Thank goodness his superiors (not just in job titles) recognized the sheer selfish stupidity in that damn idiot judge.

*knocks on salt and throws wood over left shoulder*
Or is it the other way around? Ha-ha
Here's take two at about the same point as it's predecessor as of today:

I pinned and gently stretched it out on a priority mail box. Knew those left over yarn conveyors were good for something. ;D I like how it's turning out so far. The color accuracy on my monitor looked ok. The yarn is a bit holographic thanks to the composition. It's nice and shiny and fluffy so it sort of sparkles. I can't believe it's coming out so pretty. I'm glad you strong-armed me into it, Cassi. LMAO
It's good when your friends gently strong-arm you (lol oxymoron but true) into good things methinks. Therefore I hereby declare that Katy and Cassi shall start blogging more goshdarnit (especially when they're not getting online to chat much!). I want pictures! LOL Please? :D Love you gals.

Burnt offering....
You know it's time to frog when you're lying in bed trying to fall asleep and can't stop thinking about how you screwed up the lace pattern and it's not symmetrical and you just KNOW it's gonna bug you 'till the day you die if you press onward despite it.
Well... I tried to frog but this yarn is SO dainty that it just sorta turned into a poofball and broke. Oh well... not like I don't have a 4 million yard cone of the stuff. I think I'm going to ritually cremate the poofball tomorrow on the patio as a burnt offering to the yarn gods. Here's hoping the second attempt goes much better. LOL
*sprays frog away furiously*
I think the big problem the first time round was that I'm not used to knitting with thread. LOL It's harder to keep even tension on and it has a nasty habit of tangling, sticking, and breaking.
Wish me luck!

Knitting Pics!
Yep the slump is over... here are pics of my latest projects.
First... further evidence that I am indeed a freakish massochist of epic proportions... I finally got my mystery knitalong Mystic Waters shawl started. Jeremiah walked by and asked me if I was sewing. LOL I guess it does look like thread. The pic doesn't show it but the cashmere\silk blend has a lovely halo that makes the lace pop. That and the color is a bit wonky on the monitor. It's a nice true indigo jewel toned blue.

And lastly, I'm making this for my grandma. It's bamboo and yummy and I have the pattern memorized YAY! So far it has a few design features but otherwise I'm happy with how it's turning out.

And last but not least, my pets... who have no dignity. LOL

We went to the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch near New Braunfels yesterday and had a great time. My favorite part was the zebras, and I caught some of it on video. LOL
