Update on the kitty

Well thankfully she is NOT missing an eye. Last night I was cleaning it and she was able to open it and there was a perfect little eyeball in there. Looks like she just has a nasty eye infection. Tomorrow I'm taking her to the vet to get her some antibiotics and to confirm her age and general state of health.

I posted to like 14 yahoo groups about her so hopefully maybe someone will be interested in giving her a good home. I'm hoping to find her a new forever home, but if I can't by like the middle of the week I'll start looking at no-kill rescues. I just can't bring myself to consider leaving her at just any animal shelter. I wish I wasn't allergic to cats. :(

She's doing really well with the bottle and seems to be regaining her strength and energy. She's got quite a personality. LOL I can definitely see her plotting world domination in the future, but right now I think she's just glad for somewhere warm to sleep. She's really sucking down that kitten milk like there's no tomorrow, but she won't touch wet food. She was just limp when I got her but she's nice and springy (although sleepy) now.

People suck...

So I went to my apartment complex office to pay my rent today and the lady there was like "Hey do you have a cat?" and I was like no, why? She then went on to tell me that someone found an abandoned kitten that was probably about 5 weeks old and she didn't know what to do with it. So, me being the sucker I am, I walked over and looked into the shoe box and saw this tiny calico bundle of fuzz. My heart melted. The poor baby... no mama, no food, nobody to take care of her, and to top it all off she has one eye crusted shut. Honestly I'm not even sure the eye is still there. :( Every time I try to get a good look at the damage she hisses and swipes at me... I kind of wonder if that might be why someone dumped her. She has some real spirit I must say though... Anubis was sniffing her and she was like HISS and swatted him on the nose. LOL I find that impressive considering that she is so tiny she can't make an audible meow! I think that with a trip to the vet and some TLC she'll be a great cat. I'd keep her, but I'm very allergic to kitties sadly. I went to petsmart and got her some kitten milk and a tiny feeding bottle and she's doing well on the kitten formula. Tomorrow I may try her on a tiny bit of wet food. Anyway... here are some pics I took of her. She's SO tiny... no bigger than a good sized grapefruit. It's just horrible that anyone would abandon a kitten SO tiny and defenseless. People really suck..... Anyway... on with the adorable-ness:

Awwwwww so cute. Anubis is sniffing the kitten's arse. LOL Anubis's nose gives a good sense of how TINY this kitten is (if you know that Anubis weighs all of 6lbs)

HISSSSSSSSSS BEGONE MEDDLING CANINE!!! YIELD TO MY FELINE SUPERIORITY!

EEP giant hand attack!!

Oh... you bitch... you totally had to make me look at the camera... just wait... REVENGE SHALL BE MINE!!!

Ok smartassed captions aside, see what I mean about her eye? :( Poor baby. I'm going to start working on finding her a home Monday. If I can't find her a family I'm going to find a no-kill rescue or shelter for her. She's gonna be a good kitty one day I think. :) She just needs a little help.

Woot for chihuahuas!!

Check out this video! Here's the story behind it:

MASONVILLE, Colo. - Zoey is a Chihuahua, but when a rattlesnake lunged at her owners' 1-year-old grandson, she was a real bulldog.

Booker West was splashing his hands in a birdbath in his grandparents' northern Colorado back yard when the snake slithered up to the toddler, rattled and struck. Five-pound Zoey jumped in the way and took the bites.

"She got in between Booker and the snake, and that's when I heard her yipe," said Monty Long, the boy's grandfather.

The dog required treatment and for a time it appeared she might not survive. Now she prances about.

"These little bitty dogs, they just don't really get credit," Booker's grandma Denise Long told the Loveland Daily Reporter-Herald.

Wow Petco actually responded

I'm not sure if this was an automatic message or not but at least I got someone's attention long enough for them to fill in blanks...

Dear Andrea,

Thank you for contacting PETCO regarding your concern with our store in Austin, TX. We are sorry to hear about your recent experience.

I appreciate you taking the time to write to us regarding the conditions of the animal habitats at your local PETCO store. I am very sorry to hear that your local PETCO is not up to standard with the care of our companion animals. Smackdown!

On Friday I stopped by a Petco (I mistook it for a Petsmart at first) and was just shocked by the conditions the animals were being kept in. I didn't complain right off the bat because I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. But, today, I stopped in a new pet store called "Pet Supplies Plus" and I saw how well kept their small animals were and then I thought back to the ones I'd seen at Petco and was just pissed. Pet Supplies Plus's animals were secure and kept in sanitary, well lit conditions. Screw Pecto... I WILL harass them till they clean their act up dammit. *graarrrrrrr* I sent them this e-mail today. We'll see if it gets their attention.

Dear Sir or Madame:

I was visiting the the following Petco store this past friday and saw some things that caused me concern:

14010 North US Highway 183 Suite 430
Austin, TX 78717
512-331-5874

I was deeply concerned by the state of the cages of the animals for sale. The rodent cages were full of feces and looked like they hadn't been cleaned in weeks. The ferrets cages were really bad too and they had 8 ferrets crowded into an area suitable for MAYBE 2 ferrets. The fish tanks were full of scum and algae and were totally open and not locked, so anyone could just reach in and mess with the fish inside. The reptile cages were a little better, but still not great. Please check on the welfare of the animals for sale at that location. I refuse to shop somewhere where the animals are not well cared for.

I didn't complain immediately because it hadn't dawned on me just how deplorable those animals' conditions are until I visited another pet store and saw how clean, secure, and humane their animal environments were. The aquariums were clean and locked for the safety of the animals, the rodents cages had NO feces visible to speak of, and in general the animals seemed MUCH more alert and healthy. It's just criminal to force a defenseless animal (even a simple mouse) to live in a filthy fish tank full of feces.Thank you for your time and please ensure that these animals are taken care of.

Sincerely
Andrea Hughes

ACK wth

Aren't cats supposed to be the critters with a fetish for yarn? Apparently my chihuahua does too. I found 3 balls of mangled yarn scattered through the house. I still love my doggie but damn.....

Proof of my insanity...

When I showed Jeremiah this video his comment was "Well it'll come in handy at your commitment hearing". LOL Anubis looks like "OMG WTF why is this crazy woman singing to me and pointing a camera at me? Woops my ear itches. She's still singing? Eh wtf?"

A little while ago he brought me this lovely token of his love:

I was in the bathroom and he trotted up wagging his tail and dropped it at my feet. I was like gee... thanks... dead... bug... yummmmm. LOL It was sort of cute in a disgusting way. Btw those tiles you see are about 4 by 4 inches, so that's a pretty big bug. Definitely supports my theory that he's part miniature pinscher since mini pins were bred to hunt rats. We don't have rodents here so I guess he had to settle for a big bug. LOL

New Camera WHEE!

Well I finally got annoyed and bought a digital camera. It's pretty doggone nice. Here's the first picture I took (and liked and cropped):

Just look at those big silly ears, and those innocent eyes. How could anyone resist? LOL

I got a puppy!

My mom ran across a lovely doggy at a pet adoption at Petsmart and got him for me. I've dubbed him Anubis since he looks just like a tiny Jackal. He's adorable and being spoiled utterly rotten. There was some excitement in that he came down with kennel cough shortly after we adopted him, and it ended up turning into pneumonia unfortunately. However, after a week of vet care and 24 hours in veterinary hospitals he's back to his bouncy, mischievous, goofy self (like I have room to talk). :)
